From our Interns
What our interns have to say about their experience:
Rachel, Northwest Nazarene University, Class of 2018
Through both formal training and hands-on practice, I became familiar with a range of play therapy modalities and learned how to thoughtfully select and apply interventions based on each client’s developmental level, presenting concerns, and family system. This experience significantly deepened my clinical thinking, allowing me to move beyond surface-level interventions and into more intentional, theory-driven work. I developed and strengthened my diagnostic skills, case conceptualization abilities, and overall critical thinking, learning how to view clients through a holistic, systems-informed lens while maintaining flexibility in my approach.
Supervision was consistently available, accessible, and highly individualized. My supervisors were flexible in meeting my learning needs and created a supportive space where I could ask questions, process challenging cases, and receive honest, constructive feedback. They approached supervision from a strengths-based perspective, helping me identify the skills and qualities I already brought into the field while intentionally guiding me in refining and expanding those strengths. This approach not only increased my clinical competence, but also built my confidence and professional identity as a clinician.
Being part of a clinical team further enhanced my growth, as I learned how to collaborate, consult, and contribute meaningfully within a multidisciplinary setting. I was encouraged to think critically, engage in clinical discussions, and continuously reflect on my work. Overall, my internship experience was instrumental in shaping both my clinical skillset and professional identity, ultimately helping mold me into the integrative play therapist and Assistant Clinical Director I am today at Molly & Me Counseling & Training Center.
Whitney, The University of the Cumberlands, Class of 2026
Molly and Me Counseling has introduced me to the world of play therapy. It has shown me a different perspective on how play truly helps a child grow and develop. I appreciate the different skills I have developed during my internship here and I am excited to see how it will positively impact my future as a clinician.
Jaycee, Boise State University, Class of 2026
Rhianna, University of Kentucky, Class of 2025
What stood out most was how freely I was able to be myself. I never felt like I had to fit into a mold—instead, I was embraced for who I am, which allowed me to grow in confidence and step more fully into my role as a future clinician. Their belief in me helped me begin to truly believe in myself.
The environment at Molly and Me was uplifting, fun, and filled with genuine care. It is a place where people are not only supported professionally, but personally as well. This experience has played such an important role in shaping who I am becoming in this field, and I forever grateful for that.
Sarah, Boise State University, class of 2026
It meant a lot to me, not only in developing clinical skills but also in gaining more confidence. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me realize I am capable of doing things that might be difficult. For example, including a parent in the session, talking to frustrated parents, or working with children who do not want to be part of the session. I have learned so much and loved my experience.

Graduation is here. And if I know anything about this season for interns, it is this: along with the excitement, there is often a quiet fear sitting underneath it all. A fear that sounds something like, What if I’m not ready? What if I still don’t know enough? What if...
