I received my Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership (with a research emphasis in leadership qualities of counseling center and clinic directors), my Master’s Degree in Counseling, and my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, families, and adults primarily serving neurodivergent individuals (autism, ADHD, sensory differences, learning disorders, and developmental disabilities). I am the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an integrative family play therapy framework designed to help address the mental health needs of neurodivergent children and adolescents. I am also trauma informed and trained and utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

I am a supervisor, consultant, and life coach and I utilize several years of advanced training and my own lived neurodivergent experience to provide affirming services to children and their families. I have infused my experience and love for education and mental health care to create training programs for professionals and caregivers. I am an international trainer and keynote presenter having presented for the American Counseling Association, Association for Play Therapy, American Mental Health Counselors Association, and The World Autism Congress. I am also a multi-published author of several articles, book chapters, and books including the following titles:

I am currently serving as past chair on the board of directors for the Association for Play Therapy and am a board member for the Digital Play Therapy program. Integrating Apps and Video Games in Play Therapy Work

This training will focus on using apps and video games in play therapy. How, why, and when to use apps and video games will be covered along with specific benefits when working with child and teen clients. A review of ethical guidelines and best practice when introducing and using digital play will also be presented. Several apps and video games will be discussed and explored related to addressing needs such as sensory challenges, regulation, relaxation, social navigation, creative expression, and emotion identification.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how and why apps and video games can be used in play therapy processes when working with children and teens.
  • Describe how apps and video games can align with various play therapy theories and approaches.
  • List several apps and video games that can be used in play therapy to address a variety of needs.

Ethical Issues and Play Therapy

This training will explore common ethical issues that can manifest in child and play therapy work. Association for Play Therapy (APT) best practices and various governing bodies ethical standards will be highlighted. Case examples will be discussed, and participants will have the opportunity to experientially conceptualize potential ethical dilemmas through exercises and small group discussion.

  • Identify ethical guidelines and best practices defined by the Association for Play Therapy
  • Implement procedures to identify and address potential ethical situations

Favorite Structured Play Interventions for Attachment, Regulation, and Trauma Related Needs

This workshop will explore common therapy goals related to attachment issues, regulation struggles, and trauma. Many children and teens enter the play therapy process with presenting issues related to one or more of these areas. Participants will gain an understanding of the intersection of these three typical diagnoses needs, as well as common symptoms and manifestations of each. Participants will also learn about and experientially participate in structured play therapy interventions that can be implemented to help children experiencing these needs. Case examples and clinical outcomes will be highlighted, and participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how structured play interventions can be used to improve attachment, regulation, and trauma needs.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand regulation processes from an interoceptive/sensory, nervous system perspective.
  • Explain the possible intersection between attachment, regulation, and trauma manifestations that emerge in play therapy work.
    List at least two reasons play therapy is an appropriate modality for addressing trauma.
  • Describe at least three play therapy interventions that help children with regulation struggles.
  • Describe at least three play therapy interventions for addressing trauma needs.
  • Describe at least three play therapy interventions and/or approaches for addressing attachment issues.
