Presented by: Dan Bayly, PhD, LCPC

Dan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and a PhD in interdisciplinary studies at Washington State University in the fields of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Human Development. His research interests are focused on the benefits of play in neurodevelopment, especially as it relates to ADHD. He has also conducted research and is published in the field of human animal interactions and animal assisted therapies.

Dan has worked in a variety of mental health settings including community mental health, substance abuse treatment, adult detention centers, child and adolescent residential treatment centers, university counseling centers, animal assisted counseling programs, and is currently the clinical director of Paradise Creek Counseling and Consulting, a child and family focused practice in Moscow, Idaho.

From this unique combination of interdisciplinary education and experience, Dan is able to provide well-rounded, easily adaptable concepts for his presentations.  He is an informed and engaging speaker who has presented at conferences, educational settings, and professional development seminars including the American Psychological Association annual conference, the Idaho Counseling Association, the Washington Counseling Association, The Bustad Symposium, hospital and healthcare settings, and multiple universities and colleges.  Dan enjoys presenting, educating and, as frequently as possible, incorporates interactive, hands on activities during his presentations.

Molly Gratton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Registered Play Therapist™️ – Supervisor. She is a Registered Clinical Supervisor through the state of Idaho. Molly received her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1998 from the University of Kansas. Molly has served on the board of directors for the Idaho Play Therapy Association from July 2008 to July 2019. She served as the President from July 2009 through June 2015 and her final four years as Past President and Secretary.

Molly is the founder and owner of Molly and Me Counseling and Training Center.  With over 25 years of experience helping children and their families deal with issues such as trauma, attachment disruptions, loss and grief, divorce, behavioral problems, autism spectrum disorders, depression and anxiety, she is dedicated to enhancing and empowering the lives of the people with whom she works. Molly provides counseling services to children, adolescents and families as well as play therapy training and supervision services to professionals. She has a special love for children who have autism and is certified in AutPlay® Therapy. as well as working with other neurodivergent children.  Molly has extensive specialized training in child-parent relational therapies including Theraplay, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®.) Molly was trained under Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross, co-authors of “The Connected Child,” in Trust-Based Relational Interventions.

From her education and experience, Molly is able to provide easy to understand clinical interventions and real life examples to augment the history, theory and concepts learned during trainings.  She uses humor to engage her audience and is a highly sought after speaker who has presented at numerous workshops, conferences, in educational settings.  Molly enjoys teaching and sharing creative approaches for participants to utilize in their practice immediately.

ADVANCED PLAY THERAPY II, COURSE OVERVIEW:

This training is appropriate for those who have already completed the Level One training provided through Molly Gratton and/or Dan Bayly, have completed a similar Level One training program, have obtained a substantial portion of APT approved training hours (approximately 50), or who have significant other practical experience or training which will be determined on a case by case basis. It is recommended that anyone attending the Level Two training be actively involved in therapeutic work and/or play therapy.

The presentation method of the Level Two training is a combination of lecture and PowerPoint, case sharing and consultation, role plays, video examples, group activities and experiential or hands on activities. The emphasis will be on experiential activities and real world practical applications including experience in a fully equipped play room. Guest speakers with specialized knowledge and experience may be utilized whenever available. All training materials and supplies will be provided.

Although each day has a specific set of topics to provide structure, the program is cumulative and each day will draw on the previous days’ activities and experiences. Therefore, full attendance and participation is required for successful program completion. Conversations and information regarding ethics and ethical applications will be integrated throughout the curriculum. The topics and schedule of presentation of particular topics may vary.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this program participants will:

  • Be prepared to visualize/verbalize conceptualization of a play therapy case in a supervision setting
  • Be prepared to complete a comprehensive play based assessment and treatment plan
  • Identify the brain structures and explain the interaction between the cortex and mid brain affective systems involved in play
  • Identify at least three different approaches and techniques for working with specialized populations and diagnoses
  • Gain an understanding of sand tray therapy and its history and use in play therapy
  • Be prepared to conduct a sand tray play therapy session
  • Gain confidence in communicating with other professionals and community members related to play therapy and the benefits of play
  • Be able to articulate and relate play therapy to the concepts of attachment, trauma, and normal developmental stages to parents
  • Be prepared to work with children with a number of specific and general presenting issues including trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, and aggressive and defiant children
  • Demonstrate knowledge of their own competencies and develop a plan for continued growth, learning, and development as a play therapist

CANCELLATION POLICY

A cancellation request must be received in writing postmarked no later than August 14, 2025 to receive a refund and is subject to a $75 (plus charges) processing fee. No refunds after August 15, 2024.

A full refund will be given if the workshop is cancelled.

10 CE at home- Non-contact Component: For non-contact hours, participants will be required to read the assigned texts and complete a multiple-choice test related to the readings. Following completion of the course, participants will respond to an essay prompt on the topic of personal development as a play therapist and applications to a real or imagined client.
