I often am asked the question on a regular basis, but with the new school year off to a speedy start, I have been asked this question multiple times a day.  Play therapy is a well established therapeutic modality based upon many schools of thought.  Research, both qualitative and quantitative shows that the use of play in a therapeutic setting with children is highly effective in many cases.  71% of children referred to play therapy will show a positive change based on recent research by PTUK.

I’d like to share a video made by the Association for Play Therapy, called “Introducing Andrew.”  It is a fantastic example of how play therapy works and why it’s so effective.  Click here to watch.  Another favorite of mine, also made by the Association for Play Therapy is here.  These are my favorite short and quick videos to share with others when talking about “what is play therapy” and it’s effectiveness.  I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I do!
